Short Note on Porosity

Porosity 

Volume of soil mass is called porosity. It is denoted by ‘n’ and is expressed as a percentage. n=(VV/V)*100 ------------ 

i) It can also be expressed as the total volume of all voids within a unit volume of soil mass whether it is fully or partially saturated.

 Now “V=Vs +VV From eq. 

(i): n=(VV/ Vs +VV)*100 

(ii) Or n= ((V – Vs)/V)* 100
