Short Notes on Venerable location & Manson precaution

Venerable location: 

Venerable locations are those spots in the track gridges etc where there is possibility of failure exists due to the constructional as well as natural conditions. These locations are listed and keep in the office. These location should be inspected quickly. In case of extreme whather condition these locations should be watched regularly to check out any damage.

Mansoon precaution:-

a. Monsoon Precautions 

 1. All catch water drains and side drains must be cleared of silt, vegetation and other obstructions to be ensure free flow and quick drainage of storm water. The waterways of bridge must be cleared of vegetation and other obstruction. If silting is noticed some span, it should be removed to ensure that the full waterways is available for the discharge of flood water, During desilting, care should be taken to remove the silt only up to the bed level. 

2. Protective and river training works must be maintained in good condition and repairs carried out wherever necessary. Scour holes should be filled with boulders.

गश्त की निम्नलिखित किस्मे प्रचलित है -

1) चाबीवाले की दैनिक गश्त

2) असाधारण वर्ष या तूफ़ान के समय गैंग की गश्त

3) मानसून के दौरान शीतकालीन गश्त

4) नागरिक अशांति के दौरान और वीआईपी  विशेष रेलगाड़ियो के संचालन के लिए गश्त

5) एलडब्ल्यूआर में गर्मी तथा सर्दी की पेट्रोलिंग

6) वलनरेबल (कमजोर ) स्थानों पर गश्त करना

 Responsibility of Engineering Officials in the Matter of Patrolling –

i. Inspection of Patrol Books –

ii. The Permanent Way Inspector must examine the patrol books, initial the entries entries each time he trolleys and take up irregularities. The Assistant Engineer should examine the patrol books during his inspection.

iii. Supply of Equipment to Patrolmen and Watchmen –

iv. The Permanent Way Inspectors will be responsible for seeing that each (patrolman) is provided with the equipment specified, and for periodical distribution of consumable stores like kerosene oil, match box etc. The Mate will be responsible for seeing that the patrolman and stationary watchman posses the correct equipment specified.

Duties of Patrolmen (Hindi / English)

 Duties of Patrolmen –

The duties of a patrolman shall be as follows:

1. Walk to and fro over the beat in accordance with the chart pertaining to his “patrol-section” looking out for subsidence, slips, signs of erosion, trees blown across the track during storms or any other causes likely to endanger the safety of

line. Bridges and their approaches should be especially watched.

Commencement and Termination –

The sections, which are normally to be patrolled during monsoon will be identified and notified by the Divisional Engineer. For every such section, the Divisional Engineer shall prescribe the period of year, when normal monsoon patrolling is to be done; patrolling should be started on these notified sections on of the section concerned may introduce or continue night patrolling outside the stipulated dates, duly advising all concerned.

Preparation of Patrol Charts –

The Divisional Engineer will prepare patrol charts for each of the sections where

monsoon patrolling is required to be done, taking into consideration the train timings of the time table in force during this period. The principles governing the

preparation of patrol charts shall be –

Patrolling & Its Type

Types of Patrolling :

The following are the types of patrolling in vogue:

• Keyman’s daily patrol.

• Gang patrol during abnormal rainfall or storm.

• Night patrolling during monsoon.

• Security patrolling during civil disturbances and for movement of VIP specials.

• Hot / cold weather patrolling for long welded rails/ continuous welded rails.

• Watchmen at vulnerable locations.

1. Keyman’s Daily Patrol –

Every portion of the permanent way shall be inspected daily on foot by the keyman of the beat in which the portion of the track falls. Provided that the interval between such inspections may, under special instructions, issued by Chief Engineer be increased to once in two days in the case of specified section of lines with light and infrequent traffic.

2. Gang Patrol during Abnormal Rainfall or Storm –
